This is a beautiful hardwood found only on the Oregon and northern California coast. The color of the wood can be influenced by the area where it grows, giving a wide range between blond and black, with lots of shades in between; honey, browns, reds, etc. I like the walnut-like color the best. It lasts forever, I still have the dish my mom bought 40 years ago on our first trip to the coast.
