Thumbs up Ella Race- The Tree With No Branches

I've just read this book....what a delightful novel. It was recommended to me by my brother in America. When I went to order it on Amazon, and read the reviews, they seemed quite confusing...'ideal for teenagers', 'would be a good read for women over 50', so being a middle-aged man, would I enjoy it?
It was great, superb writing...yes it was sad, but with touches of humour throughout.
I usually enjoy reading, Wilbur Smith, James Patterson and John Grisham, so this was completely different. Nowadays most novels seem to contain American spelling, so it was nice to read a novel that was truly English. You can see why one reviewer said the author's writing reminded them of Daphne du Maurier.
I have tried to read Booker Prize novels(heavy going!), and have read Richard and Judy recommendations, but this is one novel that is well worth reading.
An excellent novel...hey Richard, Judy, you should be recommending this one.

Default FUN books to read

When I am at the beach, I want FUN books...books that make me laugh, that take me away from everyday routines...just like a vacation. In the past year I have laughed through all the books by Susan Elizabeth Phillips. Fern Michaels also has a "Sisterhood Series" in which women strike back at injustice. They are quick, fun and a good escape. atlTraveler asked long ago about a book written in the 1920-1940 era...it's call "A Gift From the Sea" by Anne Morrow Lindbergh. It is jammed, packed with wisdom.

Cool Good beach Books

I am a little odd about the books I read. Since I have so little time to read I have narrowed my themes down to "Florida and the Carribean'. Mainly because I like books I can relate to. For books that are a comical lookj at my state I usually read Tim Dorsey. He is a very good Author and is very amicable at his book signings. Once the 'Serge' gets in your blood you have a hard time letting him go.
Anything by Randy Wayne White, James Hall, Elmore Leonard, S.W. Date, Carolina Aguilera, Laurence Shames, and one I was recently given to read James O. Born.
As far as Jimmy Buffet goes 'Where is Joe Merchant' and 'A Pirate Looks at Fifty' are both excellent books.

I had a hard time with The Mermaid Chair and didn't love The Secret Life of Bees like so many other's did. Feel the same way as you on those two, hard to get through.
Did just read Sancuary by Nora Roberts and enjoyed it.

Also, try "Don't Stop the Carnival". A great book about a guy who drops his life in the city and moves to an island in the Caribbean where a hotel he bought awaits. Great book and quick read. Funny, too!
